Excursion, Friday 31st of October 2025
We offer a ½ day excursion to visit the Batu Caves, which is a 325-m tall mogote with a series of limestone caves in Gombak, Selangor, Malaysia. It is located about 10 km north of Kuala Lumpur. The cave complex contains many Hindu temples, the most popular of which is a shrine dedicated to the deity Murugan. It is the focal point of the Tamil Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia. The complex also hosts a 43 m high Murugan statue, one of the largest Murugan statues in the world.
Part of the complex of caves is the Dark Cave, which is the longest cave system in the 156-hectare Batu Caves tower karst, managed by the Malaysian Nature Society (https://mns.my/about-mns/) (MNS), a conservation organization. The visit of the Dark Cave will be another highlight of the excursion to Batu Caves as it offers through a guided tour by MNS to explore a unique cave ecosystem, learn about its rich biodiversity including rare species, and see impressive limestone formations.
However, it is important to note that for safety reasons, the visit to the Dark Cave is conditional and is dependent on the assessment of the prevailing situation of the cave as stipulated by MNS. In the event we are not able to visit the Dark Cave, MNS will arrange for a special Dark Cave briefing at their office headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
At Batu Caves, our guided tour will last approximately 2-3 hours.
It is recommended to wear good, sturdy shoes, as some parts of the path are slippery. Vistors will also need to comply with the general dress code for Batu Caves, which requires covering your knees to enter this place of worship.
The field trip will start at the Palm Garden Hotel and includes the bus or aircon coach transportation to and from the Batu Caves, the guided tours including the Dark Cave offered by experts from MNS, and a Malaysian style lunch at a local restaurant near to the Kuala Lumpur City Center (KLCC), the location of the iconic Petronas Twin Towers. Please consider in terms of timing a start time around 08:00 in the morning and return time to the hotel approximately around 14:00 to 15:00 in the afternoon. Costs per participant is USD 35.
